1. Provide a brief description of the blog and a text hyperlink to the blog. The Caucus blog is maintained by the New York Times. Just from browsing through the first several pages, it seems as though the site focuses on the presidential election. It covers both the democratic and republican side. Blogs are written by various writers. It does a really good job of updating on a regular basis (several times a day). http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/ 2. How does this "professional" blog differ from blogs you have taken a look at up to this point? The other blogs I have followed are more concerned about whether the blog is visually appealing. The Caucus Blog is definitely organized and is easy to follow, but other non-political blogs seem to be more focused on including the most amount of pictures or videos. This blog is also more proper and formal in its writing and deliverance of information. The other blogs I have looked at consist of a more informal writing. 3. Take a specific issue presented in the blog, describe how that issue is presented, and provide your own response. The issue i chose was Palin on Abortion and Gays. I chose this topic because my soap box last week was on the topic of abortion. It introduces the topic by saying that Palin is evidently against abortion, but focuses on the unclarity of her position with situations such as incest and rape. In an interview on CBS, the reporter had to ask questions of her position on rape and the morning after pill several times before he got a direct answer. In conclusion, Parin does state that she believes that life begins at conception, so therefore, she is against the morning after pill. She also says that she would hope that woman who conceive due to rape or incest would choose life, but adds, "And, um, if you’re asking, though, kind of foundationally here, should anyone end up in jail for having an … abortion, absolutely not." As I have already stated in my soap box, I believe that incest and rape are exceptions to the my pro-life position. I lean on the pro-life side because I believe that people should take responsibility for their choices but on the situation of rape and incest, it is not the choice of the woman, so she should not be forced to accept the consequences. I also do not support the morning after pill because if taken, it ruins the opportunity of a life, which i believe starts at conception. |

This blog is very straight forward, as you've mentioned. It is easy to follow and I like how it shows both sides. I also thought it was a really good idea that you chose to reflect on the topic of abortion and related it back to your soap box.
